What's In My Mommy Bag? A Mommy's Survival Kit On A Day Out With The Baby

Thursday, February 08, 2018

Okay mommies, we all know that whenever you travel with a baby, the first thing that pops into your mind is what you need to prepare yourself and the baby for the trip. For this topic, I am focusing on what's a mommy's survival kit for a casual day out with the baby would look like. I know some mothers love to pack an extra of everything (not that there is anything wrong with that) but that will just make you carry a heavier bag. And remember, this is just ONE DAY OUT with your baby and not a three day trip so be smart in what you need to bring with you. If you are a new mother or someone who loves simplicity just like me, here are some of the important things you need to pack in your Mommy bag to enjoy a day out with your baby.

1. Milk kit

If you are still breastfeeding, all you need to bring is a nice nursing cover up so you can feed your baby when you are out and about. However, if you stopped breastfeeding and your baby is drinking formula milk, there are some things you need to pack with you.

(a) A bottle of flask with warm water (travel size)
(b) Milk bottle
(c) A small container filled with formula milk + spoon to scoop

All you need to do is to prepare a bottle of milk so you can give your baby in the car while you are driving and always make a fresh one when your baby needs it. As long as you have the three things listed, you are good to go. If you are spending your day at the mall, there are some malls that provide a water filter of hot and cold water for you to make your baby's milk in the baby room. Take advantage of that and you can also top up the warm water in your travel flask.

2. Sippy Cup

When you are out for a date with your baby and if he is old enough to sit in the baby high chair at cafes, bring his sippy cup along with you.

The sippy cup allows your baby to hydrate when you are eating your lunch and you would not worry it will spill. I bought lil Aryan's sippy cup from IKEA and it only costs RM6.50. Pretty affordable right? If you are wondering where to get it, simply click here → IKEA training beaker

3. Baby snacks

Your baby will definitely get hungry so before he becomes cranky on your day out together, make sure you are prepared to give him some baby snacks. Whether there are biscuits, home made finger foods, bread or fruits, your baby will love to munch down on it.

When I am out with my baby, I always bring some plain bread with me and also some baby biscuits in my mommy bag.

4. Diapers

Yes, you can never forget to pack a sufficient amount of diapers in your Mommy bag as they will need to be changed every 3-4 hours while you are out or when you baby does the number two. You would not want to make your baby cranky on your day out together because he/she feels uncomfortable down there. I always pack about six diapers in my mommy bag when I go out from day to night with baby.

5. Nappy cream & Baby wipes

Nappy or diaper creams is a very crucial baby must-have for me especially as babies have very sensitive skin and having doing the business in the diaper can lead to rash. Every time you change the baby's diaper, never fail to apply some nappy cream to avoid rashes to appear. One diaper cream product I definitely swear by to soothe and protect baby from developing rashes is Soducream. It also helps treat redness and rashes that appear too very fast.

6. A change of clothes

Not only that, you should pack a change of clothes for your baby. Who knows your baby might throw up, make a mess with food on his clothing or have a leaking diaper. The change of clothes are ready in cases of these emergencies.

7. Some toys

Babies love to play and be entertained so never forget to throw in some of his toys in your mommy bag. I find that a car, a ball and something that makes noise are handy to keep my baby happy while we are out together without Daddy.

8. Your lil one's security blanket or soft toy

If you are driving, your baby will definitely want to be clingy. Therefore, the best way to calm your baby down is by always bringing the lil one's security blanket or soft toy. Lil Aryan has his own soft toy which we call 'Bunny' that makes him feel safe. He has to snuggle with his soft toy 'Bunny' when wants to sleep.

9. Your own necessities

And, of course, bring what you need like keys and wallet. Besides that, there is nothing wrong in throwing a lipstick and powder in your Mommy bag as well. Mommy's gotta look good too on a day out in town.

For a day out with baby, these items are all you need to have prepared in order to experience a smooth and enjoyable time. I managed to survive a brunch date with my lil one last weekend with all the above items. Since I shared what's in my mommy bag, share yours down below. Love to know what you are packing too!

Til, then. XOXO
